Lumley Road Relocation
Connico provided cost estimating for this project.
Project Details
Connico provided design cost estimating during the initial identification that Lumley Road would need to be relocated due to a runway replacement at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Elements of the project at this stage included demolition of the existing roadway, new pavement installation, ancillary drainage, mechanical and electrical relocations, and redevelopment of a Superfund site. Our services continued during the actual design of the project which included removal of Lumley Road and relocation outside the proposed runway protection zone of the future runway. Elements of the construction included fencing, curbs, gutters, piping, channeling, basins, embankments, pavement, lighting, signage, drainage, and earthworks. Also included were the disturbance of an existing Superfund site and a major sanitary sewer force main utility realignment.
Connico encountered some challenges during the project as the new Lumley Road configuration cuts through a Superfund site, making environment regulations extremely strenuous on the work to be completed. We had to isolate all work located in the Superfund side to change labor and equipment productivity amounts to account for additional cleaning and potential HazMat interferences. Since the project was coupled with Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s Runway Relocation program, the design of Lumley Road and the Runway progressed at different times, so after design submittals were completed, potential changes in the other project potentially caused additional revisions/updates. It was important for Connico to be meticulous in their data storage and notes taking in-order to be dynamic and meet multiple clients’ expectations.
