Wings of Wisdom: Key Takeaways from Connico’s Analyst Retreat

At Connico, one of our biggest differentiators is how we invest in the growth and leadership abilities of every single team member - regardless of age or experience level. We recently hosted our second annual analyst retreat in Chicago, IL., which provided a platform for professional development, team bonding, and strategic planning for our analysts. This retreat stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering growth and camaraderie among our younger team members. Unlike many companies that focus on executive or full-team retreats, Connico’s unique approach ensures every team member, regardless of position, has dedicated time to connect, learn, and plan for a successful future.

This year, the retreat featured a day full of workshops and seminars designed to enhance the young professionals’ skills along with opportunities for team bonding and leisure activities across Chicago. The event kicked off with a welcome from President Sri Kumar and included presentations from other skilled leaders on a variety of topics, including the importance of two-way communication and active listening with HR consultant A.J. Nardini, how stress responses can contribute to a mentally healthy workplace with Connico’s own Deane Gardner, and how to build impactful and innovative ideas through self-leadership with Leadership Coach John Barrett. Additionally, the analysts headed into the city to enjoy a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, some sightseeing, and tasty lunches and dinners throughout the weekend.

We asked a few of our analysts to share their takeaways from this enriching experience. Keep reading to learn what Tyler Bartruff, Faroq Al-Rjoub, Suraj V. Gaikwad, and Caleb Claxton took away from their weekend in the Windy City.

There was an impressive emphasis on growing Connico’s culture and leadership

As a newcomer to Connico, I was thoroughly impressed with the analyst retreat. Meeting leaders like Sri, AJ Nardini, and John Barrett on a personal level offered a deep dive into Connico’s culture. The group dinners and activities were instrumental in fostering relationships within the Analyst team, while the subjects covered underscored the value of inclusivity, giving analysts a voice in the company's future. Sri's passion for growth and improvement resonated throughout his discussions, instilling confidence in his leadership. Understanding AJ and John's roles provided clarity on expectations within Connico, and I eagerly anticipate seeing our discussions translate into action.

The future includes a lot of innovation – and deep team connections

The analyst retreat was a transformative experience. Over three action-packed days, we engaged in workshops and networking sessions designed to spark ideas, ignite innovation, and drive transformation. The discussions centered on professionalism, effective communication, workplace expectations, and the integral role each member plays. We delved into leadership, stress management, and the tools needed to tackle daily challenges with resilience. Bonding with colleagues and forging deeper connections were highlights of the retreat for me. This event was more than a gathering; it was a catalyst for change, pushing us to excel and reflect on the knowledge shared. My deepest appreciation to the organizing team, especially Sri, for championing our growth and continued excellence.

Candid discussions help build stronger teams

Participating in Connico’s analyst retreat for two consecutive years has been a highlight of my time here. These retreats consistently enhance team bonding and foster personal connections. Connico’s approach, allowing employees to choose and plan activities, ensures a fun and engaging experience. This year’s retreat in Chicago included powerful professional development seminars covering topics like breathing techniques and communication under stress. The open forum led by Sri was particularly valuable, fostering candid discussions about making Connico the best place to work. This retreat, filled with workshops and leisure activities like a Cubs game and sightseeing, was an incredible experience. I look forward to next year’s retreat, with more new faces and higher spirits.

A successful vision for the future includes being pushed out of your comfort zone

The analyst retreat in the Windy City was filled with great fun and team-bonding experiences, from a Cubs game to an architectural cruise. Beyond the activities, the retreat was a profound brainstorming session on making Connico the best place to work. As the company continues to grow, training has become a foundational pillar. We left determined to instill a training mentality within the company, where continuous learning and mutual training are paramount. Additionally, Connico’s investment in young professionals' development is unparalleled. The retreat pushed me out of my comfort zone, contributing to my growth as a professional, father, husband, and individual. The great philosopher of ancient Rome, Seneca, once said, “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable,” and that wisdom resonated deeply as we focused on our vision for the future. The retreat’s combination of professional development and leisure activities was perfect, and I am grateful for Connico’s dedication to our growth.
