Team Tapestry: Meet Analyst 2 Muhilan Subramanian

Through our Team Tapestry series, we highlight the individuals who contribute to Connico’s culture and give a closer look at the people behind the work.

In this installment, we feature Analyst 2 Muhilan Subramanian, a member of Connico’s Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) department. Since joining the firm in 2025, Muhilan has brought his background in mechanical engineering to Connico’s cost estimating department. Beyond his technical work, Muhilan shares how Connico has shaped his growth, the importance he places on relationships and resilience, and a few of the interests that keep him busy outside of the office.

Tell us about your background and your role as Analyst 2 at Connico. 

I focus on Design Development and ROM-level cost estimating for mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems. My engineering background helps me bring a technical perspective to cost estimating, translating design intent into accurate, defensible numbers for Connico’s projects across aviation and transportation sectors.

How has being part of the Connico team shaped your professional and personal growth? 

Connico’s team has vast experience and constant support. The mentorship from our people has pushed me to grow faster than I ever could on my own. They’ve challenged me to take on new responsibilities and become more confident in my work.

Connico’s culture has also taught me the importance of accountability and taking responsibility, even when it means sitting with uncomfortable situations. I’ve found that working through those moments instead of avoiding them has helped me continually learn and grow professionally and personally. Our culture continues to push me toward becoming the best version of myself while contributing to our goal of making Connico the best place to work.

What’s a skill or strength you’ve developed at Connico that you’re most proud of? 

Communication. I’ve learned that information needs to be conveyed with the right level of detail, understanding, and respect, whether the conversation is technical or not. Learning how to communicate more effectively has given me greater confidence and helped me connect with more people within and outside the organization.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received or lesson you’ve learned over your time at Connico? 

John Barrett, a leadership coach, once told me, “Never underestimate the relationships you’re building.” That line has stuck with me, and I remind myself of it every day before I start work.

Throughout my time at Connico, I’ve met some amazing people in different situations. I’ve always wanted to travel, meet people from different cultures, and learn about their histories and experiences. The people I’ve met at Connico have exposed me to these new perspectives and encouraged me to keep an open mind. My experience has shown me firsthand how inclusivity can make a difference in the way we connect with and learn from one another.

Which Connico core value resonates most with you, and why? 

It’s tough to pick just one, since we encounter every core value throughout the year and each one is equally important. That said, the value I’ve personally connected with most is Resiliency. As a young professional just getting started in my career, I’ve faced plenty of challenges that have required me to learn and implement new things in a short amount of time. Being resilient has helped me work through those challenges, keep learning, and continue moving forward.

 What’s a fun or surprising fact about you that many people may not know? 

I used to be a very shy and introverted kid, but as I’ve grown, I’ve become much more extroverted and love interacting with just about anyone I meet. I’m also a big sports fan who enjoys both playing and watching a variety of sports, so naturally, I love spending time outdoors whenever I can.

What is an accomplishment outside of work that you are especially proud of? 

Something I’m especially proud of, both inside and outside of work, is learning to ask for help and being willing to offer it to the people around me. Mental health is something that can often be overlooked, but a simple “Are you doing alright?” or “You can lean on me,” or “I’m all ears” can have a bigger impact than we realize. I believe we should all look out for each other and offer support whenever we can. At the end of the day, we’re all better when we know we have people we can lean on.

What song, musician, or band would appear most often on your personal soundtrack? 

My favorite band is Linkin Park, and I’ve been a fan since 2010. I’ve loved hard rock and metal since I was young, and what really stands out to me about Linkin Park is their lead singer’s incredible vocal range, going effortlessly from soft, melodic verses to intense, high-pitched screams. Their songwriting and music are truly one of a kind. In November 2024, I got to live out one of my lifelong dreams and see them perform live in Dallas, TX.

If you could spend a day with any soccer legend, who would it be and why? 

The one and only Bruno Fernandes, who is a legend in my eyes as a Manchester United fan. Since the club’s last league title in 2013, Manchester United has gone through some challenging years. Throughout it all, Bruno has remained a constant leader for the team. Despite interest from other clubs, he has remained committed to Manchester United and continues to give everything he has. 

Beyond being a fantastic player, Bruno’s commitment and loyalty continue to inspire me! Those are qualities I hope to learn from and carry with me in my own life.

If you could attend any World Cup match (past or future), which would you choose? 

The 2022 World Cup Final. It was an unforgettable final in the history of the tournament. I remember watching on TV the moment one of my lifelong heroes, Lionel Messi, finally won the one trophy that had been missing from his collection. Seeing him lift the World Cup after such a long career was incredibly meaningful as a fan and a representation of how hard work and perseverance can pay off, even when the journey takes longer than expected. I can only imagine what it would have been like to experience that moment live in the stadium and celebrate it alongside the fans.
